In a context where people are exposed to images constantly, I believes in the transformative power of visual communication and the responsibility that it requires. Currently, the way public social media sites makes profit is by allowing space to advertisers, creating an intrest in retaining people’s attention longer; longer screen time, more advertisments. Platform designers deliveratly make social media insatisfactory to extend time spent on it. I don’t wish to participate in fueling virtual addiction by giving traffic to host websites that profit off of feeding off of people’s negative feelings.
As a testament to my upbringing with an Internet freed of copyright and characterized by a sense of community and sharing. I wanted to make a project out of my personal website by trying to find a host site outside of the advertiser monetization model, so I built it myself !
